The 3008 is the best-represented compact SUV in the Peugeot range and one of the most in-demand on the French market. Its second generation was a clean break from the first, which was a raised MPV.
That sustained demand translates into slower-than-average depreciation: it is a model where negotiation is harder than elsewhere.
Of the 239 used Peugeot 3008 listed right now: 62% are diesel. 50% have manual transmission. Half are priced under €15,000.
The second generation, from 2016, makes up most of the offer. It is an SUV in the full sense, with the i-Cockpit driving position and an interior finish clearly above the segment average.
The Hybrid and Hybrid4 plug-in versions turn up more and more, the second adding electric four-wheel drive.
The first generation, a raised MPV, is still available cheaply but shares nothing but the name with what followed.
On PureTech petrol engines with a wet cambelt, insist on the cambelt replacement invoice.
On a plug-in hybrid, check whether the car was actually charged: many cars from company fleets almost never were, which does not harm the battery but tells you about the consumption the previous user saw. Ask for a battery diagnosis too.
Test the touchscreen and every function that depends on it, climate control included.
On versions with large wheels, the cost of a full set of tyres belongs in the budget.
A family wanting space and a high driving position, with mainly touring use. The plug-in hybrid only if you can charge regularly.
