The Twingo is one of the shortest cars on the market, and that is the whole point of it: it parks where nothing else fits, with a turning circle that makes a real daily difference in town.
Its entry price is among the lowest on the used market, which makes it a very common first car.
Of the 189 used Renault Twingo listed right now: 88% are petrol. 95% have manual transmission. Half are priced under β¬5,000.
The Twingo II, from 2007 to 2014, is a conventional front-wheel-drive car, mechanically simple and very affordable.
The Twingo III, from 2014, changes architecture entirely: rear engine and rear-wheel drive, which gives it an exceptional turning circle but removes any possibility of a boot at the back and complicates some mechanical work.
The Twingo Electric uses that same layout and is intended for strictly urban use.
On the Twingo III, the rear engine layout makes some jobs longer and therefore dearer in labour: worth knowing before buying a high-mileage car.
Urban use marks the bodywork: parking scuffs are normal and they are negotiable.
Check the clutch, which the odometer reflects poorly on a car doing repeated short trips.
On a Twingo Electric, ask for a battery diagnosis and check that the real range matches your journeys.
Strictly urban use, a first car or a household second car, for a driver who puts manoeuvrability and price first.
